Alina Romanova: Story & Interview

I was born in Moscow, Russia, and lived on its territory until I was about 12 years old. At that age, my mother brought me to the United States, where I finished my education and got married. I have been into modeling for quite a while and I am very thankful that my husband is supportive of that. I love active sports, traveling, working out. I would love to see as much of the world as I possibly can.

Describe yourself in three words. Determined, confident, serious. How would you describe your personality? I would say I am outgoing, easy to talk to, energetic. I love being around people.

How would you describe your professional interests? As a model, I am interested in producing beautiful high-quality images. I want to get to the top of the industry and to be recognized for my work.

Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in this Career? I love posing in front of the camera, it’s my passion. I wanted to do this since I was a little girl and I am very glad I have this opportunity now.

What languages do you speak? I am fluent in English and Russian. Unfortunately, that’s about it.

If you could change three things about yourself, what would they be? I wouldn’t. I like who I am and I wouldn’t want to change that.

How would you describe your style? Consider anything from color to historical eras and more. I would say modern/fashionable. I love high heels, dresses, light scarfs, classy skirts, and blouses. I prefer darker colors, but you can sometimes catch me wearing a bright red top.

What are your strengths? And what are your weaknesses? I would say that one of my main strengths is confidence. As for weaknesses… It’s probably shopping, just like for every other female.

Where do you generally shop? In the US I generally shop in Macy’s, Forever 21, and similar places.

What kind of modeling are you interested in and why? I am mainly interested in commercial and print. Unfortunately, I am not tall enough for the runway, but I love producing great images.

Do you have any other experience in the fashion industry (like writing photography etc.)? Unfortunately no. Although I would really like to gain experience in photography.

How would you describe working with the photographer? It’s different with every photographer. Some like giving directions, some just point the camera at you, some like studio work, some outdoor. I generally try to be creative and have fun as much as possible. I never really had a negative experience with a photographer before.

Why would you think you’re fit for being a model? I have unique facial features and proportions suitable to produce unique, quality images. I am dedicated, hard-working, and most importantly: I love what I do.

Do you do your own hair and make-up? A lot of times. I mainly do my own makeup, although sometimes I had to get help styling my hair.

Do you eat nutritiously? Tell me about the diet you follow on a regular basis? Of course. I mainly eat milk-based products, fat-free milk, cottage cheese, yogurts. I try to eat a lot of vegetables, fruits, and lean fish. I eliminated white sugar and salt from my diet and fast food is a definite no.

How often do you exercise or go to the gym, workout? How much time do you spend there? I generally go to the gym about 3-4 times a week for about an hour. My work out generally consists of intense cardio exercises.

What are some of the main differences between the runway and photographic modeling? Runway models have a certain standard set for them, over 5’9″ in height, very slender. If your height is under that, your chances for the runway are very low. When it comes to photographic modeling, models simply have to be beautiful and body proportionate as well as professional.

What’s your favorite outfit from your own closet? That question is nearly impossible to answer since it changes a lot.

Describe the atmosphere when you’re on a shoot? I would say it’s more serious, yet relaxed at the same time. I like to be focused, yet I don’t mind taking small breaks and interacting with the photographer.

Do you have any limitations? Would you model any kind of clothing at all? I try not to model lingerie. And nude and implied shots are definitely not for me.

Describe the ideal work environment for you. Bearable temperature, a good photographer, and plenty of outfits. What are your likes and dislikes? When it comes to modeling I really have no dislikes. I like everything about it.

Excluding all complicated beauty & fitness mantra, what do you think to be the easiest way to look pretty and glamorous? Keeping in shape, taking care of your hair, skin, and nails so they are healthy and the ability to put together pieces of cloth thing to create a style. Any girl can be pretty when she is neat, has clean shiny hair and clothes fitted to her body type.

Is there anything else you’d like to add? I would like to say that anything is possible. If you can visualize it, you can do it. I am glad I am doing something I love and I hope to keep going in that direction. Photo Credits: Copyright is owned by Martin Howard.
