Scarlett Raye: Story & Interview

So we all have that dream as a little girl… That dream of being on the Big Screen, Being a supermodel, a mother a wife… the princess becoming a queen.. as we grow, some of us go after that immediately.. some of us take a while… I apparently take a while!

HI! My name is Scarlett Raye. I am a wife and mother of 3 boys at the young age of 35 FINALLY going after my dream, becoming a PinUp model. My life isn’t roses, I work a regular full-time job and frankly. I come from a very small town where you literally know everyone, and there is a good chance that you are related to most of them. I always had a love for old cars and tattoos. So in my early 20’s, I was already out of the “IDEAL” model category. The Pin-Up scene wasn’t really happening then, especially on the East Coast, let alone in little old’ South Jersey. Then when I met my ex, he wasn’t very supportive and overall very jealous. Lots of Heartache there, but I got my two oldest boys from that relationship. We may have not gotten much right, but we did make some beautiful kids. Since then, I have gotten married to my soulmate, had my 3rd and last child. I have not only found the support and strength I needed on the outside but I then also came to terms with my true beauty inside and out.

My first modeling experience came officially after Hurricane Sandy Destroyed my community, I was asked to pose for relief calendar to help raise money for our local victims. I got my first true taste in front of the camera, just about a year ago, and its been love ever since.

You will find that I am blunt, I am opinionated, I have the mouth of a sailor but I am true inside and out. If you’re offended by me, don’t follow. If you like what I am, what I say, and what I stand for… then, by all means, join in! BEAUTY COMES IN ALL SHAPES, SIZES, and COLORS… and I as you can see, I am very colorful!

Describe yourself in three words. Real, honest, loving

How would you describe your personality? I’m outgoing, witty, and always smiling. Even when things aren’t great, I always find something to smile about.

How would you describe your professional interests? My professional interest varies. A lot of interests me.

Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in this Career? I am about supporting women and their beauty. All women are beautiful. You don’t have to be a size 2 and 5’10”.. I do this also for fun.. the feeling of being in front of the camera makes you feel incredibly sexy.

What languages do you speak? English… and very little Spanish.

What’s your background in modeling? My background is primarily PinUp.. but I will work all genres. I have been featured in a few calendars, online mags and soon to be in Retro Lovely

If you could change three things about yourself, what would they be? Mainly… Income, just want to be ahead of the game and live comfortably. but other than that.. honestly nothing. Every day I grow personally. My experiences in life define me, including my mistakes.

What are some of your favorite models and designers? My favorite models are Bette Page, Marilyn Monroe, and Audrey Hepburn (actress) had to class… I am not into designers really, I am honestly the first one you will see in a thrift store.

How would you describe your style? Consider anything and everything from color to historical eras and more. My style is retro, rockabilly, and unique. I was honestly born in the wrong era, and doing my best to help preserve it.

What are your strengths? And what are your weaknesses? My greatest strength is also my weakest.. my heart. I open it way to easy and usually get burned, I am that kind-hearted soul that will always do what I can for you. whether I like you or not.

Where do you generally shop? With all boys in my house… the food store. other than that, Kohls, target and as I stated above the thrift store. I love the one my local church has. At least my hard-earned cash is going to a good cause.

What kind of modeling are you interested in? I am primarily interested in the PInUp genre. I, myself own a 1960 Impala Parkwood Wagon and my husband a chopped 1931 Model A. I believe in keeping history alive. And the Pin-Up era showed true class in a woman.

Do you have any other experience in the fashion industry (like writing photography etc.)? No… just modeling. however I love writing, drawing, and painting.. but none of it is professional

How would you describe working with the photographer? It really depends on the chemistry between you and the photographer. If the two of us click its like magic and I can work for hours, if there is none…. well let’s face it, it’s a drag.

What makes a stylish woman or man? Is there a difference? Stylish lady or man has nothing to do with the style clothes, it’s their confidence. How they hold themselves. But not to be confused with stuck up and the ‘all about me” types.

How would you describe the photographer’s style? My photographer’s style.. hmm. He’s upbeat funny and super easy to work with. He is always willing to expand and try new things. And as you can see he is fantastic with Pinup.

What are some of your favorite fashion photographers? I honestly don’t have any. Joe Allocco isn’t famous, but he is my favorite. He knows he is good, but keeps it real.

What’s your beauty regime? Pretty basic… Noxema face wash and Garnier Fructis face cream.. simple as it gets.

Do you eat nutritiously? Tell me about the diet you follow on a regular basis? I try my best to eat well.. We all slip now and then… But we are really into clean eating, trying to keep all the processed stuff out of our bodies as much as possible.

How often do you exercise or go to the gym, workout? How much time do you spend there? I do a lot at home, especially running but with a full-time regular job, winter months make that hard. LOVE Shaun T with his Insanity and T25 workouts, but other than that, I try to take a few Piloxing classes a week at a local Studio.

What are some of the main differences between the runway and photographic modeling? I have never tried Runway modeling, would like to one day. But I would say there is a big difference between the two. Runway, you have to not only hold the position, but walk a certain way, etc. Photographic is freer, more fun.. or at least it seems.

What’s your favorite outfit from your own closet? My favorite outfit from my closet is actually a comfy pair of jeans and a tank top (sweatshirt in the winter)

Describe the atmosphere when you’re on a shoot? The atmosphere on a shoot really depends on the type of shoot. from indoors to outdoors, what theme, etc. Always professional but yet relaxed.

Describe the ideal work environment for you. Ideal work environment. Making money while modeling. Something that is hard to do in this industry, especially in my geographical area. I love it, its work, it’s fun and I can show the woman who you do have to be a size 2 to model.

What are your likes and dislikes? I have too many likes. I love the PinUp era, old fast cars, bikes, nature, hunting, fishing, etc. the list can go on. My dislikes.. are liars, fake and inconsiderate people.

Excluding all complicated beauty & fitness mantra, what do you think to be the easiest way to look pretty and glamorous? Be yourself, Be genuine, Be true… Be beautiful on the inside first.

How you communicate with your other netizens, especially your fans and followers? How often you reply to them They can comment me on my page or send me a message. I try to get back to them within the day or two. I plan on staying true to myself.. without my fans I won’t go anywhere. So it is important for me to reach out to them in return.

Is there anything else you’d like to add? I just want the world to know, people are beautiful creatures. Find the beauty within yourself and let it shine thru. That is the main reason behind my modeling. Yes, I enjoy it. But I also love the fact that I am showing women that you do not have to be stick thin, young, and non-tattooed. BE YOU, BE CONFIDENT, BE SEXY.
