Lauren Shares: Story & Interview

I had just got off work bartending at a club in Chicago, and was on my way to my car when A man stopped me on the street. He told me he really liked my look, and that he was a model representative from a company called 7 Oaks Models. I was aware of the many scams out there about modeling, so I reluctantly gave him my contact information. I never expected a call, but sure enough the next day I received a phone call. I was in defensive mode when he talked about the company, I kept waiting for the catch. That catch never came, and I ended up signing a contract with the company the following week. Since that time two years ago I have worked with so many amazing talented people. For being a model that is only 5’6 people doubt what I can do. People like to try to set limits for what is possible, and I enjoy pushing them and proving them wrong. One of my favorite comments I hear from photographers is, ” You’re only 5’6, from your photos I believed you were at least 5’8″! I have so much passion for modeling, some of this passion I believe comes from my dance background. Knowing my body has been such an asset when it comes to posing and trying to express emotion. High fashion work is my favorite because emotion drives the pose. I like to think that I am someones canvas. Whether for a designer, or MUA I like to try to bring everyone vision together for an exceptional end product. Versatility makes what I do successful. I’m a chameleon, given the opportunity I surpass expectations. Models should never be stagnant, always flowing, moving forwards, and growing. In this industry, there is always something new to learn, and there are always amazing people to teach. As of now I’m modeling between going to school full-time. I am looking to work with fun passionate people who are just as driven to be successful as I am.

Describe yourself in three words. Driven, fun, Focused

How would you describe your personality? Outgoing.

How would you describe your professional interests? I am interested in creating stunning work 🙂

Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in this Career? Modeling satisfies my creativity. I love being able to look one way in one photo and completely different in the net. To be able to meld art, movement, expression, and fun into one career, who wouldn’t want to model? 😉

What languages do you speak? I speak English and Sarcasm.

What’s your background in modeling? I have modeled for about 2 years now.

If you could change three things about yourself, what would they be? I am a procrastinator…that would be all three.

What are some of your favorite models and designers? Lindsey Wixon is an amazing model, her look is so interesting. I could name models all day, there are so many beautiful talented models out there. I don’t have a particular designer either, I love too many.

How would you describe your style? My style centers around my mood for the day. Sometimes I wake up and end up wearing everything in greyscale, other days I’ll wear very bold colors. I like to mix old and new styles.

What are your strengths? And what are your weaknesses? My strengths and weakness would be that I am stubborn.

Where do you generally shop? Anywhere that has something that catches my eye. I do love Guess though.

What other modeling projects have you done? I did a breast cancer awareness ad for a Chicago store called Londo Mondo. I have shot for M&M Modeling Magazine LLC, I have worked many charity events.

What kind of modeling are you interested in and why? Everything, because you have to be able to do it all. Being well-rounded is a big deal, but I will say I love high fashion the most. Despite it being 10 times as hard to break into.

Do you have any other experience in the fashion industry? No.

How would you describe working with the photographer? A blast, when working with a photographer I’m usually laughing and having a good time. Photographers have told me that I get very focused when it comes time to shoot. As much fun as I like to have I am still very focused on the end product. I feel like I bring a healthy balance of both to the table.

Why would you think you’re fit for being a model? I know how to pose and convey emotion I can take direction very well

Do you do your own hair and make-up? I have in the past, but most of the time a MUA and stylist work their magic

What’s your beauty regime? I have recently gotten really into homemade facial masks. They work amazingly well, I will never spend money on masks again.

Do you eat nutritiously? Tell me about the diet you follow on a regular basis? I grew up with a Clinical Dietitian for a mother, so I am very aware of how to eat healthily. I try to stay away from salt and really processed food. I don’t eat fast food, it’s just not appetizing to me.

How often do you exercise or go to the gym, workout? How much time you spend there? I try to work out in the mornings, but with my schedule sometimes I have to make my own workouts. For example, I’ll park the furthest away from where I need to be and jog there, or taking the stairs up to different floors instead of the elevator.

What are some of the main differences between the runway and photographic modeling? Runway has a whole different vibe. There’s this energy and hectic chaos that is so much fun. Photoshoots I feel are more laid back in comparison.

What’s your favorite outfit from your own closet? I have a thing for “half shirts”.

Describe the atmosphere when you’re on a shoot? Energetic 🙂

Do you have any limitations? People create limitations. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told I’m to short, but it’s fuel to my fire. I enjoy proving people wrong when it comes to standards.

What are you likes and dislikes? I don’t like stuck up attitudes. People who act like they are the best can aggravate me because I feel like one can never know everything. There is always room for improvement. I also don’t work with people who can’t be on time or are flakey. It’s the basics. I love when photographers are excited about their work, It’s contagious and makes me want to be that much better 🙂

Excluding all complicated beauty & fitness mantra what do you think to be the easiest way to look pretty and glamorous? Confidence goes a long way.
