Barbara Zatler: Story & Interview

I am a Danish redneck that was born in Horsens Denmark. I grew up in the countryside along with my older sister but when I was about 8 years old I was placed at an orphanage, I stayed there until I was about 15-16 years old. But I must admit that it has been some of the best years of my life because I learned how to be strong and independent. And that we all can use in this life! Back in 2002, I hunted down a career as a model and I am mostly known from Playboy where I am five times international Playmate, Esquire, GQ, Maxim, and FHM where I have almost been published in every country where you can find FHM. I have also done some acting on the side of my modeling career and of movies which I can mention, Teddy Bear and Klovn The Movie. I’ve been voted as the sexiest woman in the world by FHM and I won the title as the funniest bunny of the year by Playboy radio USA. I chose to do things on my own and be my own booking agent but I do have an agent who takes care of all the formalities if I get contacted for a job. But I prefer to reach out to magazines on my own and not hire somebody to do the work for me. It is my business and I love it this way!

Describe yourself in three words. I would say warmhearted, temperamental, and a huge animal lover. What languages do you speak? I speak Danish, Swedish, English.

How would you describe your personality? I guess I’m a bit stubborn at times and I can have quite the temper that I am trying to keep down. But I might add that I mostly get angry at myself because I have to high expectations to myself and that I really have to work with. I am a warmhearted person and I love helping others and therefore I do a lot of charity work when I can. I love humor and to laugh. It is the best thing I know. And as we all know some of the best things in life are for free!

How would you describe your style? I like all from the hippie look to the businesswoman look but I don’t think I have a certain style. I just buy and wear what I find nice. But I do like to mix colors and some of my favorites are Green, Blue purple.

Can you sum up your style in three words? The personal touch.

What’s your most memorable shoot? And What kind of shoots would you like to work on in the future? That must have been with Playboy. The crew was very professional and made me feel very comfortable even though I had to take off my clothes. Not something I am used to in front of a camera, but they were kind and professional so I almost forgot that I was naked during the shoot. I was nervous of course because I wanted to live up to their expectations and I managed to get through the long shoot that took 16 hours. And I was very happy to become a part of the Playboy family and they surprised me with the cover, something that I had not seen coming!

What do you think, Is it important to attended fashion modeling courses? Do they really help newbies to get a foothold in the Fashion Industry? For most parts of the models, I would say yes because here you learn how to work your body and facial expressions the right way. This is often hard for girls to do if they have no training in this. But about getting a foot inside the industry I do think that it goes hand in hand with having the right look. If a beautiful model can not work the camera to her advantage then she will not make it far. Because there are high expectations for the girls to deliver in both looks and expressions!

Is there anything you want to change about yourself, what are they? If we are talking about looks then perhaps a very petite dent on my nasal bone but I am not sure I will do anything about it because you don’t really see it on pictures, that’s how small it is. But if we are speaking personality it is my high expectations I would like to lower.

What kind of modeling are you interested in and why? I prefer bikini/lingerie or fashion. Because most of my clients are men’s magazines or lifestyle magazines like FHM or Esquire and that sort.

Describe the atmosphere when you’re on a shoot? When I am on a shoot we always have fun and that’s easy to have when you do the things you love to do. I am always a happy smiling easygoing person. I also prefer to have music playing in the background because it helps me in some weird way to concentrate on my poses. If I meet up at a shoot with a grumpy photographer well then I just do my job fast and move on to the next thing. But most of the time, we have a great time and laugh.

Do you have any limitations? Would you model any kind of clothing at all? I don’t have that big of a limit of what I would model for but if it were sex fetish clothes or something like that I would say no thanks. But normal everyday wear clothes or high fashion etc I would not care who was the designer or what it looked like.

What are your strengths? And what are your weaknesses? My forces must be that I am persistent, stubborn, and determined but my weakness is my stubbornness in certain situations.

What makes a stylish lady or man? Is there a difference? I do not think that there is a stereotype of how a woman or a man is stylish and I do not believe there is that big of a difference if you are a man or a woman. I think it all comes down to what you yourself think is stylish. There will always be someone out there who thinks that your style is rocking! I like that one stands out and is different so it doesn’t get to mainstream all the time.

What’s your favorite outfit from your own closet? I prefer leggings and sweaters when it’s for everyday life.

Who are some of your favorite models and designers? My favorite designer is Dennis Lyngsoe who also is one of my dearest friends. He is a Danish designer but has come far in the fashion industry. He has designed some of my finest dresses!

Where do you generally like to shop? Do you shop online? If yes then tell us about your favorite shopping sites? I don’t really have any favorite place I like to shop. I don’t shop very often so when I do it is just some random place.

What are your likes and dislikes? I like living and life itself. I can mention so many things I like so I will start off with the things I don’t like and that is people who are racists, are arrogant and think they are better than others, are against gay couples. People who don’t like animals.

Is there anything you avoid eating? No, I eat everything, don’t care much about all that diet stuff. I just eat what I feel like eating. I want to enjoy life and food is one of my favorites 🙂 Just don’t overeat but just till you are not hungry anymore and things work fine. In my case it does.

How do you stay fit? How much you workout? What types of exercises you do? I don’t work out I just ride my bike or go for long walks in the forest with my two dogs. That’s all the exercises I do.

How do you enjoy your time off, away from work? What keeps you happy? I love to spend time out in nature, I am a real nature person and no big city girl at all. I spend my time walking my dogs in the forest or I read a book and just relax that way. I find my peace of mind by doing so. But to get real nerdy I do genealogical research to find out more about where I came from and how my ancestors were. This is very exciting for me. Yes geek I know but I found that many of my ancestors immigrated to the US back in 1800.

What are your favorite hang out spots in the city you live in (current location)? I love being at Nyhavn, Nyhavn is one of the oldest parts of the Copenhagen harbor and dates back to 1673 and the houses there are from the same period. I love the atmosphere there along with all the cafes along the harbor. Just lovely! But I also like to be at Dragoer which is a suburb to Copenhagen and it is so charming with all the old little houses near the sea. Here I like to spend time and lay on the beach.

What is your favorite city and where do you like to hang out there? Los Angeles and I love to hang out in Santa Monica Beach. I often go to the beach in the morning and enjoy my first meal by the sea.

What magazines & weblogs you like reading? Oh, I really don’t read magazines or web blogs I read the news or watch them on TV.

How you communicate with other netizens, especially your followers? Are you patient? polite? friendly? How often you reply to them? Yes, I think I am very polite and friendly. I think it is very important to treat people nicely and with respect. It is not okay to be arrogant or show bad manners to other people. We all just want to be treated nicely by others and it stares with ourselves being nice. No one likes a person who doesn’t have high thoughts on other people but himself. We are all equal so show it!

How you access the Internet? What device do you use: Is it a tablet, smartphone, or laptop? What according to you is a more comfortable, quick, and easy device for accessing the Internet? I mostly use my laptop Macbook when it comes to working but if I am on the go I use my iPhone. But only for checking emails and Facebook. Work always happens from my laptop. For a fast look, I use my iPhone as it is more easy and fast if I just need to look at what’s going on on Facebook or check for new emails.

Do you own a domain? Do you blog? I mean where netizens can find the latest news feed about you? Yes I have my own website www.barbarazatler.com but I do not blog anymore, now I just post whats going on with new interviews and coming events. So my Facebook page would be the place to follow me for updates. https://www.facebook.com/BarbaraZatler
