Jacquí Daniel: Story & Interview

I hail from New Mexico, I been an aspiring model for 5 years. I really have been focusing my attention on the alternative/tattoo and pinup. Last year I recently signed on with a tattoo shop where I model the tattoo artist artwork at conventions and other various events. I have had the privilege of being published fourteen plus times in various independent magazines, I am excited to announce I will land my first magazine cover in April for Delicious Dolls Magazine which is a pinup based magazine. It will be for their sheer pinup, they have been such a great supporter of my work and I am happy to be on the cover of their magazine as it is truly an honor! Currently, I am working on being apart of the Suicide Girls magazine, I shot my first set which will go into member review soon! I was happy to hear from Suicide Girls personally on Instagram, they felt that I would be a gorgeous addition to the team and really encouraged me to apply.

What were you doing five minutes before this interview? I was working on my homework, I am currently pursuing my masters in accounting. I am hoping to somehow apply it to what I am doing now in the near future, maybe an accountant for a big inked magazine, or open my own business.

What made you want to pursue a modeling career instead of any other career? It is something I truly enjoy doing, what girl doesn’t love to play dress up and get their photo taken? I enjoy being able to collaborate with various photographers and help their concept come out the best possible on camera.

What do you feel that separates you from other models that are in the game right now? I feel I really try to educate myself on whatever it is I am being hired for if it is a product I research it. If I am shooting a certain style shoot I try to research the genre ahead of time.

Where have you made appearances? (video, print, etc) Recently I made my first video, nothing big just something short to get me comfortable behind the camera. I had a lot of fun with it, it had no speaking lines so that made it different. I have been published fourteen times in various independent magazines, along with being Miss August in the 2014 Girls of Geek calendar.

Out of all the work you’ve done so far, which was your favorite video or photoshoot? Thus far it has been my shoot for my Suicide Girl submission set, it is always exciting to collaborate with photographers from different states. Shooting in Vegas is already pretty awesome and I felt pretty confident overall which turned into some great images.

When do you feel most beautiful? In my own skin, I love my tattoos and they make me feel beautiful.

What’s the first thing you do in the morning? Let my dogs out, boring I know but true.

What makes you laugh uncontrollably? It depends, it’s not just one set thing. It can be anything from a picture online with a humorous caption to a funny line or skit on a TV show.

What do you do to de-stress after a bad day? Go home, it is my sanctuary and gets away from the rest of the world.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re with your friends? Just hang out, doesn’t matter what we are doing just as long as we all enjoy it.

What does fashion actually mean to you? What inspires your passion and what excites & motivates you about modeling? Fashion is what you like, I’ve never been one to follow trends. If I see something and I like it, I buy it. The most exciting thing about modeling is when you get to do something new, shoot a new genre or crazy concept.

What do you think, is it important to attended fashion modeling courses? It could all depend upon the type of modeling you are trying to pursue, I would recommend it for runway models. It wouldn’t hurt for any model to do so, I know from experience that most genres of models end up doing a runway show at some point in time.

How you communicate with other netizens, especially your subscribers? How often you reply to them? I communicate on a daily basis via Facebook or Instagram, I usually will post pictures or upcoming events I’ll be partaking in. I reply to comments on a daily basis and try to respond to emails in no less than a week, I like to give myself a good hour at minimum to reply to emails.

Has modeling changed other aspects of your life? What does your career do for you? It has, it is something I take very seriously so it plays just as big of as school does for example.

Is there anything you dislike about modeling? One thing, in particular, is when I hear photographers abusing their privileges, it is already rough for new models in the beginning. I try to always give aid or advice to young models when possible, I also encourage models to do their research before working with a photographer.

And what are some things you dislike or want to change about the fashion industry? I know certain brands target certain people, however, I feel it would be to some fashion designers benefit to using a variety of different models. I feel fashion can appeal to anyone, just not one particular looking individual, and that designers take business away from themselves by having one type of model promoting their product.

How you prepare yourself for a modeling shoot? Depending upon the shoot will depend upon prep time and what it consists of, I always try to pack a day before so I don’t forget anything. It can be very discouraging not having all you need for a shoot, mentally I just try to have fun as stress can be easily picked up by the camera.

What has been your best fashion look? What was your biggest fashion mistake? I’ve always worn what I like, the only thing I noticed is I go through color phases. For the longest time, it was orange, I laugh at all the ridiculous orange clothing I use to have.

What are your favorite types of outfits to model in? What are your least favorites? I have only shot in latex once but had a lot of fun and was happy with the final product, I haven’t really come across an outfit I didn’t enjoy modeling.

Any ultimate goal to fulfill as a model? How do you see yourself progress in this field?

My ultimate goal is to find a good stable sponsor that I could travel around to model and promote their products.

What kind of shoots would you like to work on in the future? Right now I’m looking to do something crazy, edgy, and off the wall. I am just waiting for the right idea.

Which country you are from? Tell us something about your city, your favorite hang out spots there? I am from the United States, New Mexico is where I reside. One thing I love about New Mexico is the food, the green chili is amazing. No particular hang out places, if there is any place I do hang out the most it would be where I get tattooed.

What do you like to do for fun & entertainment? I don’t have a lot of spare time but when I do I enjoy spending it with family and friends.

What is your perfect day? Everything going smoothly, from the traffic to interacting with people.

What’s your fashion mantra? I like it, I buy it.

Please describe your style? My style is pretty much casual and fun depends on what is I am doing.

What’s your beauty regime? Rest, lots and lots of rest. I think people forget that sleep is really important and make it one of their last priorities.

Do you eat nutritiously? Tell us about the diet you follow on a regular basis? Is there any food which you avoid eating? I only eat fish, I try to stay away from all other meats. The only time I have made an exception is for the holidays, I don’t like to be rude or have someone alter their dish just for me.

How often do you exercise or go to the gym? How much time do you spend there? As my schedule allows, lately it has felt impossible to be able to go. I do believe some sort of physical activity is necessary, good stress reducer as well.

Excluding all complicated beauty & fitness mantra, what do you think to be the easiest way to look pretty and glamorous? Be you and be confident, both will show over any fitness activity or facial.

What is fun and rewarding about modeling? Do you have any advice for other aspiring models? The end product is always a reward to me, more like an accomplishment. The only advice I have is to stick with it, nothing is easy.

What fashion magazines and blogs you like reading? Honestly, I follow a lot of independent designers via Facebook or Instagram, most of it is not your everyday fashion. Some of the designers I follow are Dawnamatrix, Misfit Clothing, Carnie Couture, Cathouse Clothing, and American Trash Couture.
