Jessica Dos Santos: Story & Interview

I was introduced into the beauty competition world around May 2012 where I started training every weekend for pageant shows. My first pageant show was on the 1st JULY 2012 at Brixton. Winning two titles in the pageant Miss Portugal UK 2012, I traveled to Jamaica for another competition in the next following two months. On NOV 17th, I competed in Essex at the Miss Commonwealth International 2012 and won the supreme title of International Queen of friends of the Commonwealth 2012/13. In March I competed on online competition and won the title of Miss YoModel March 2013.

I was awarded the Best Female Model Of The Year 2013 at the International Online Awards earlier this year. Besides all the modeling work, I’m the founder of a charity organization that was founded on FEB 18th 2013 as a company, called Future Base. My charity works in helping the less fortunate Children, Families, and Communities around the world. In DEC 8th 2013, I’ll be competing in the Miss Beauty Queen 2013 in Scotland.

Away from the pageants, I do a lot of appearances, promo work, and photoshoot. In 2014, I’ll be trying something new which I’ll let you all know in due time.

Describe yourself in three words. Outgoing, Dream Chaser, Lazy.

How would you describe your personality? Fun and Interesting.

Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in this Career? Modeling as never been something that I’ve planned or dreamed of from young. I don’t usually plan anything, I’ll rather go with the flow and see where things take me in life.

What languages do you speak? English and Portuguese.

If you could change three things about yourself, what would they be? My laziness, the prideness that I have in me, that sometimes doesn’t allow me to do certain things that I want and my attitude towards certain things.

What are some of your favorite models and designers? Tyra Banks and Adriana Lima.

How would you describe your style? Consider anything and everything from color to historical eras and more. My style varies depending on my mood and also seasons. In the winter I prefer to wear dark colors such as black, grey and brown when in summer I’d work clothes with a bit more color such as, white, yellow and red. My overall style is casual/smart. But I do get those days when I want to be in a tracksuit. My footwear is strictly trainers unless going to an appearance or a work event.

What are your strengths? And what are your weaknesses? One of my strengths is not giving up. A lot of people are going to want to see you down or not achieve something you have in mind, but even when people do try to put me down, I have this strength of getting straight back on my two feet to carry on my Journey. My weakness is saying no.

Where do you generally shop? If I walk past a shop and see something I like, I’m more than likely to walk in and try it on, but my main shops are, Topshop, River Island, Miss Selfridges, Office, and JD Sports.

What other modeling projects have you done? My modeling work is mostly just based on Pageant Shows but I also do promo work by hosting different events and promoting different clothing lines.

What kind of modeling are you interested in and why? I’m interested in things like commercial modeling, catalogs, or anything to do with clothes. Even though I don’t mind other kinds of modeling but I’m definitely not interested is any nudity work, as my aim is to be the perfect role model for these young girls.

How would you describe working with the photographer? So far all photographers that I’ve been through have been fun and comfortable to work with.

What makes a stylish lady or man? Is there a difference? A great posture – The reason posture is so important is because it affects how others perceive you a lot more than you could imagine.

Do you do your own hair and make-up? I’m usually really picky with how the make-up looks on me but there have only been a few times that I’ve done my make-up and that’s been for a few appearances that I’ve had at some events. Apart from that, I’ve always had a lovely team doing my hair and make-up.

Do you eat nutritiously? Tell me about the diet you follow on a regular basis? I don’t really have a diet that I follow. I just eat what I want and just keep exercising. But I do eat fruit and veg.

How often do you exercise or go to the gym, workout? How much time do you spend there? If I could, I’ll probably be in the gym every day but I only go 2-3 times a week and never spend less than an hour in there.

What are some of the main differences between the runway and photographic modeling? The main difference to me is that to be a runway model you have to measure a weigh a certain amount and have a minimum hight of 5’8/5’9, and for photographic modeling, you’ll find different shaped girls with different heights and measurements.

What’s your favorite outfit from your own closet? I don’t have a favorite, I love everything I wear.

Describe the atmosphere when you’re on a shoot? Bubbly, loud and playful.

Do you have any limitations? Would you model any kind of clothing at all? Yes, any kind of clothing from gym wear, to casual, smart, party and evening wear, bikini and lingerie.

Describe the ideal work environment for you. A place that I work in can not be tense. I’m quite a comfortable girl when I get to know people that I’m working with. Anywhere that I work, it’s a must to have music on.

Excluding all complicated beauty & fitness mantra, what do you think to be the easiest way to look pretty and glamourous? Just be you!
